At Lamar, we desire to know Christ and to be His light to all nations and all generations. This means that we want to follow the Lord Jesus Christ’s command to effectively minister to people of all nations, whether they live right here in our community, across the world and anywhere in between.
Southern Baptist Mission Efforts
In 1925, the Southern Baptist Convention established the Cooperative Program. The Cooperative Program – CP Missions – enables all Southern Baptists to work together to support missions efforts world-wide.
Through the International Mission Board, Southern Baptists support 4,946 missionaries in 153 different countries. Your gifts and prayers resulted in 451,000 new believers baptized in 2000 outside of North America.
Southern Baptist’s support of CP Missions allowed the North American Mission Board to send out 5,081 missionaries in 2008 and help start over 1,700 new churches. Approximately 415,000 people were baptized in 2008 as a result of individual Southern Baptists becoming Partners in the Harvest.
Learn more about the missions efforts of the Southern Baptist Convention by visiting the individual mission organization websites.
The Lamar Baptist food pantry ministers to the community by providing emergency non-perishable staples to individuals and families. Individuals may contact the church office for further information. Adults and children within the church contribute resources in order to keep a well stocked pantry.

Talsi Christian School, Talsi, Latvia
Lamar Baptist has been involved in Talsi Christian School since its founding in 1995. In 1993 Inguna Gruznina was called by God to open a Christian school in a former Soviet Union Republic that had spent 50 years being taught their was no God and that to worship God was a sign of weakness. In 1995 she stepped out in faith and opens a school providing a Christian education for students in grades 1-4.God has blessed the school and it now provides Christian education for grades 1-12. Students not only receive an education steeped in Christian ethics, but one that is ranked as one of the best of all in Latvia.
The goal of Talsi Christian School is to train and equip the future leaders of Latvia. It’s graduates have gone on to become ministers, missionaries, doctors, dentists, engineers and business leaders who are helping shape Latvia into a nation focused on God and the belief that He alone can offer hope to them as a nation.
Every year a group from Lamar Baptist goes to Talsi to conduct a Youth Camp. Students from all over Latvia and other Baltic Republics attend. Many have come to know Christ during this camp. Many of the students from Lamar who have helped in the camp have formed lasting friendships with the students they meet. Every four years Lamar Baptist helps sponsor a choir from Talsi Christian School to come to the United States to share their music and their testimony. Further information on the Talsi Christian School can be found at www.talsichristianschoolfoundation.org or www.413foundation.org.
