What We Believe

The Bible is truly all we need for faith and practice. This is exactly why we must be clear about what the Bible teaches. Not every member of Lamar agrees 100% with the statements below, but all staff, elders, and leaders do. No teaching or preaching at Lamar will every contradict these statements. We believe they are a reflection of the clear teaching of God’s Word.

Why the Bible?

Baptist Faith & Message

The Baptist Faith and Message (2000): this is the doctrinal statement of the Southern Baptist Convention, which outlines the beliefs that all churches affiliated with the SBC hold dear. Click HERE to read the Baptist Faith & Message.

Chicago Statement

We want to be really clear about the power and truth of God’s Word. This is why this statement exists! The heart of it is this: God is pure and holy, and his words are as well! Click HERE to read the Chicago Statement.

Danvers Statement

There is beauty in God’s design for biblical manhood and womanhood. Men and women are made in God’s image, and have complementary roles in the church and in the home. Click HERE to read the Danvers Statement.

Nashville Statement

Sexuality is a gift from God for emotional and physical intimacy between husband and wife, and also for bringing new life into the world. This statement explains God’s beautiful design for human sexuality. Click HERE to read the Nashville Statement.

Ryan started at Lamar as Lead Pastor in 2019. After growing up in Wichita Falls and graduating from Iowa Park High School, he studied Music Composition at TCU in Fort Worth, where he met his bride. Lauryn grew up in Arlington, graduated from Seguin High School, studied music at TCU, and worked as a band director in Ennis, TX. Both Ryan and Lauryn have roots in DFW, and most recently served also in the Kansas City area.

Ryan’s passion, first and foremost, is seeing God’s people absolutely captivated by the Gospel—the unspeakably good news about God’s grace shown to mankind through the substitutionary death of his Son, Jesus. His desire is to see the people of Lamar so in awe of what God has done for them in Jesus, that they cannot help but speak about it with others.

Ryan received a Bachelor of Music from TCU, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary, and is currently finishing up a Ph.D. in theology at Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City. In his spare time, he loves exploring with his two sons (Jacob and Martin), reading, and playing a bit of jazz trumpet! Ryan can be reached at [email protected]
